Really Green!

Here’s what we did and what we continue to do to keep our Carbon footprint light, and go easy on the environment:

  • • We are the first business in Rock County to have solar power which offsets the lighting bill for the entire store!
  • • Local vendors and builders were utilized when renovating the store.
  • • Our flooring is made of partially recycled materials, & the paint is “LEED” certified & low VOC
  • • We added windows and a vestibule with sliding doors for weather protection, energy conservation, and natural lighting.
  • • We used recycled lights as well as high efficiency track and spot lights.
  • • We put sensors in common rooms that operate lights only when there is movement in the room.
  • • We added a “smart clock” for the outside lighting, & purchased energy star kitchen equipment.
  • • We use refurbished refrigeration equipment, grocery carts, register stations, and salad bar.
  • • We use a rack system which runs the refrigeration, heats the hot water heater, and recycles the heat for the use in the store!
  • • We offer charging stations for electric cars in our parking lot.
  • • We reuse all packing peanuts for shipping and UPS donation.
  • • We offer local and organic fresh produce, cheeses and meats, thereby stimulating our local economy and cutting down on excessive fossil fuels due to the high travel mileage.
  • • We like to “BYO” containers for bulk commodities & shopping bags to cut down on waste.
  • • We sell recycled, reusable, and eco-friendly household necessities.
  • • We are loyal to fair trade companies, and donate $ to many local non-profits each year.
  • • We continue to enlighten the community on health and wellness in our free community room!
