Rolling Meadows

Rolling Meadows owner Richard Wittgreve wasn’t able to find sorghum syrup to purchase - so he decided to make his own!

Wittgreve’s 20 acres of cane-like grass in Elkhart Lake, WI now produces 1300-1400 gallons of sorghum syrup annually.

What is sorghum syrup?

Sorghum syrup is a natural sweetener created from juice squeezed from the stalks of a special variety of sweet sorghum. It has a rich, dark color and consistency similar to molasses but with a milder taste.

Why use it?

Not only is sorghum syrup high in antioxidants and potassium, but it also has lower fructose levels than other sweeteners. Try substituting sorghum syrup 1:1 in place of liquid sweeteners such as honey, molasses, or agave.
