Seed Savers Exchange is a tax-exempt 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of heirloom seeds.

What is an Heirloom Seed?

Heirloom seeds come from open-pollinated plants, meaning the seeds can be planted, the resulting plants allowed to mature and the seeds collected to be replanted the next season.

Heirloom seeds have typically been handed down from generation to generation for at least 50 years. You can count on the plants grown from them to produce the same qualities year after year. This is not true for seeds from hybridized plants, or GMO seeds, which have to be purchased each year.

Gardening with heirloom seeds preserves genetic biodiversity, protecting our food supply for future generations, and provides you with the most intense flavors, textures and colors! Find them in the Produce department.

We built a movement, not a seed company. With gardeners like you, we can get these seeds where they belong—in gardens and on tables everywhere, for generations to come. Thank you for growing with us.
